What is a Mail List?
A "mail list" on the internet is an automated email setup that allows for an on-going conversation on a given topic - with a virtually unlimited number of participants. Any message sent to the list address is resent by the List Server to everyone on the list.

SIDEDRUM is a list for those participants, and interested parties, in the development and support of Scottish Style drumming of all sorts (Side, Rhythm Tenor, Flourishing Tenor, and Bass Drums). The server is currentlyhosted by Comstar Communications and maintained by J. J. Hayden. The list is un-moderated. Contributions may deal with the various questions, answers, and discussions of all things related to Scottish Drumming, Scottish music and distributing information about drumming events and activities world wide.

How do I get on the list?
All you need to do is . . .
Send an email message to sidedrum-subscribe@comstar.net

What happens then?
When the list software on the comstar computer gets your message, it will automatically add your email address to the list and send you a welcome message. After that, you should begin to receive messages from people you may or may not know, on the subject of pipe band drumming. If you reply to one of those messages, your reply will go out to hundreds of drummers in North America and overseas.

What does it cost?
Nothing. Subscribing to this mail list is free.
...but if you ever see J.J. at a games, you might shake his hand and thank him.

Here are some commands:

To UNSUBSCRIBE from SIDEDRUM:
   Send a message to
sidedrum-unsubscribe@comstar.net

To SUBSCRIBE to the DIGEST version of SIDEDRUM:
   Send a message to
sidedrum-digest-subscribe@comstar.net

To UNSUBSCRIBE from the DIGEST version of SIDEDRUM:
   Send a message to
sidedrum-digest-unsubscribe@comstar.net

If you would like to be able to post messages from a second email address (ex: myemail@host.com) and not receive email at that address:
   Send a message to
sidedrum-subscribe-myemail=host.com@comstar.net
(notice that the @ in myemail address is changed to =)

And to remove the secondary email account:
   Send a message to
sidedrum-unsubscribe-myemail=host.com@comstar.net

Every time that you send a command to the list system, ezmlm, it will send you a message and request that you reply using a special TO: line. Just copy this line to the To: field of a new message and sent it.
